this is so amazing

Whew. I need a break, but I mailed my portfolio in today. Feels good, but honestly it’s just the beginning, long way to go. I...
I love all things related to surfing and design so this was something I could not pass up posting. In honor of International Surfing Day (today, June 20th) Quicksilver decided to create an infographic comparing Kelly Slater to athletes from traditional sports to show how big of a BAD ASS Kelly really is.
It’s a pretty interesting comparison, and I am learning a lot about this beautiful althlete of a man while reading through it. Did you know that out of all of his accomplishments, he has never been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated? LET’S GET THIS MAN ON THE COVER!!
Read through the whole graphic; it’s really cool to see what this 40-year old has been able to do (he holds the record for being both the youngest AND oldest surfer to win a title…pretty great).
Enjoy!

Taj Burrow ripping near home shot from the water at 300 frames per second. Shot by the magnificent Rick Rifici. Always inspired.
US Open of Surfing 2012. Teaser came out yesterday and I am so stoked for this year. And the video is really good-looking, which only amplifies my excitement! YEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
THIS IS MY ARENA!
HOLY WAVE! THIS IS FREAKING RIDICULOUS! Watch this and have your jaw drop in amazement. Seriously, I’m panicking just watching the size of these waves compared to the guys surfing them. Not to mention the super sick Phantom camera that adds a whole new dimension to capturing the gnarly surf displayed in Tahiti. Take a 15 minute break and watch this film. It’s worth every minute.
On August 27, 2011, the Billabong Pro Tahiti event on surfing’s World Tour was placed on hold due to a massive swell bearing down on the famed big-wave spot, Teahupoo. With forecasts calling for unprecedented surf, some of the greatest surfers in the world descended on the island to be in the water, despite a “Code Red” called by the Tahitian Coast Guard, which sought to keep everyone on shore. See the historic day through the eyes of two surfers — the young gun Laurie Towner and the veteran Dylan Longbottom — as they catch some of the biggest, most dangerous surf ever recorded, much of it captured with the super slow motion Phantom Camera for never-before-seen imagery.
San Luis Obispo International Film Festival Poster!!!!!! Ellen and I finally finished our poster for Advertisement Design, and I couldn’t be more excited with our final product!! Hope you guys like it as much as we do. We were given the task of creating a movie poster for the SLO International Film Festival, showcasing a “sports night” of surfing, mountain biking, and snowboarding. All photography and design is all original work, so I’m super stoked on how it turned out!
Special thanks to our radically talented photographer Tyler! He shared the vision that we had for this project, and stuck with us up until the very end! THANK YOU TYLER!
Also, special shout-out to all of our friends that helped us out with the modeling process. Some of the shoots were super gnar, so again thank you to everyone who helped!!!
KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!

I’ve set one of my homepages to Surfline.com recently, and have been amazed with some of the posts, photos, videos, and interviews of some of the world’s best and most talented athletes in surfing.
One of the posts I came across today was an ad from Quicksilver called Water Dancer. It looked interesting, so I clicked it, and was first excited just about the layout and design of the site. It’s simple, but they flow the videos out like…..well, water and dance. The concept is a series of short films where Stephanie Gilmore, a 23-year-old world champion surfer, meets and has a conversation with premier dancers (ballerina, choreographer, and break dancer) to learn what inspires and drives them and how their dancing relates to her passion of surfing. Check out the site to watch and enjoy!
Just got my work schedule for the US Open of Surfing. BOY IS IT A DOOZEY! But it’s okay. I’ll be learning so much about the surf industry, meet and make tons of connections, and actually be able to witness the events this year.
Most of the time it’s too packed to even enjoy the vendors, concerts, or the competition. This year the concert lineup is Jimmy Eat World, Surfer Blood, Dead Country, and MGMT. Walk the Walk is back for the national championships (I can’t believe it’s been almost 4 years since I competed!). And who can forget the ACTUAL SURF COMPETITION?! Some of the best surfers from around the world will be competing, and I can’t wait to watch it all happen! Should be interesting to say the least.
I am so stoked that I am one of the USO interns this year! It’s going to be a wild ride! CAN’T WAIT!
