Coastal Carnage. I miss you already <33 Also, if you watch the video close enough, you can see me watching from the mini bowl :)

    My adventure with Converse!

The past 2 weeks has been CRAZY! But in an incredibly awesome way. Meeting new people, making lots of connections, understanding and learning so much about the world of skateboarding, drooling over skater boys, applying temporary tattoos, dealing with difficult adolescence, running errands, working retail….it was a lot within a short period.  My body aches, my brain hurts, and my heart yearns to have one more day with the other interns and Converse reps.

For those who may or may not know, I had the opportunity to be an intern for Converse during the US Open of Surfing in my hometown of Huntington Beach.  Converse had the skate area of the Open, with the Coastal Carnage competition, as well as a public skate bowl and then a CCS Retail Store.  I had the chance to be apart of a wonderful team of 6 interns and a slew of people who work for Converse/CCS.  I felt like I wasn’t even at home because I was only homeHOME at night to sleep; my entire days were spent on the beach (it may sound like an easy vacation, but trust me….it was work).

Coastal Carnage was such a treat to watch; these guys are so gnarly!! Especially some of the younger ones…it’s ridiculous.  Some of the guys that I had the pleasure of watching include: Eli Reed, Sammy Baca, Tom Remillard, Ben Hatchell, Curren Caples, and Kalani David.  Kenny Anderson was there throughout the week, and we had the legendary Tony Hawk have a spot in the finals to compete!! (Even I thought that was really cool).

I would have to say the best part of this experience was definitely the people that I had the chance to spend 10 hours a day with.  Hopefully I will be collaborating with Converse in the near future, in their graphics department. We will just have to wait and seeeeeee!!!!!

Here are some pictures of the madness/awesomeness that I was involved in!!

alright converse! I don’t even skateboard, but this is still really sick!!

Rec Deck: Future product concept for Converse…

A study of the Converse brand showed how their products unite the youth in energetic expression and creative rebellion. Rec Deck builds on this idea by bringing people together in a very real and tangible way, uniting their dynamic and creative personalities and having loads of fun at the same time.

This carbon fibre skateboard boasts six high-speed cameras mounted inside the trucks to capture skate footage from an entirely new perspective. Since skateboarding tricks are all about the movement and rotation of the board, these cameras will capture every flip and spin in a way that has never been seen before. The underside of the deck also doubles up as a touch screen, so stunning videos can be edited together using footage from each of the six cameras.

Rec Deck uses technology in a Converse way, bringing people into the street where they can get their adrenaline pumping while capturing great skate footage. I then allows them to get creative and produce stunning videos from the six cameras, adding slow motion replays, dropping in soundtracks and so on. The finished videos can then be watched, shared and kept as a reminder of the rebellious days.
